Paragraph Two
The only solid piece of scientific truth about which I feel totally confident is that we are profoundly ignorant about nature. Indeed, I regard this as the major discovery of the past hundred years of biology. It is, in its way, an illuminating piece of news. It would have amazed the brightest minds of the 18th century Enlightenment to be told by any of-us how little we know and how bewildering seems the way ahead. It is this sudden confrontation with the depth and scope of ignorance that represents the most significant contribution of the 20th century science to the human intellect. In earlier times, we either pretended to understand how things worked or ignored the problem, or simply made up stories to fill the gaps. Now that we have begun exploring in earnest, we ate getting glimpses of how huge the questions are, and how far from being answered. Because of this. We are depressed. It is not so bad being ignorant if you are totally ignorant; the hard thing is knowing in some &tail the reality of ignorance, the worst spots and here and there the not-so-bad spots, but no true light at the end of the tunnel nor even any tunnels that can be trusted.

Paragraph One
The word "television", derived from its Greek word: distant) and Latin (vision: sight) roots, can literally be interpreted as sight from a distance. Very simply put, it works in this way. Through a sophisticated system of electronics television provides the capability of converting an image (focused on a special photoconductive plate within a camera) into electronic impulses, which can be sent through a wire or a cable. These impulses, when fed into a receiver (television set), can then be electronically reconstituted into that same image.
Question
Which of tile following is NOT mentioned in the paragraph as a function of electronics in television transmission?
A. Tile conversion of image into electronic impulses.
B. The sending of impulses through a wire cable.
C. changing of one image into another image.
D. The feeding of impulses into receiver: [NextPage]
Paragraph Two
If one were to ask a group of randomly selected individuals to define "price" many would reply that price is an amount of money paid by the buyer to the seller of a product or service or, in other words, that price is the money value of a product or service as agreed. upon in a market transaction. This definition is, of course, valid as far as it goes. For a complete understanding of a price in any particular transaction, much more than the amount of money involved must be known. Both the buyer and the seller should be familiar with not only the money amount, but with the amount and quality of the product or service to be exchanged, the time and place at which file exchange will take place and payment will be made, the form of money to be used, the credit terms and discounts that supply to the transaction, guarantees on the product or science, delivery terms, return privileges, and other factors.

According to the passage, which of the following is NOT a factor in the complete understanding of price?
A. instructions that come with a product
B. the quality of product
C. the quantity of a product
D. guarantees on a product
Paragraph Three
Money spent on advertising is money spent as well as any I know of. It serves directly to assist a rapid distribution of goods at reasonable prices, thereby establishing a firm home market and so making it possible to provide for export at competitive prices. By drawing attention to new ideas it helps enormously to raise standards of living. By helping to increase demand it ensures increased need for labor, and is therefore an effective way to fight unemployment. It lowers the costs of many services: without advertisements your daily newspaper would cost four times as much, the price of your television license would need to be doubled and travel by bus or tube would cost 20 percent more.
Question
In the passage, which of the following is NOT included in the advantages of advertising?
A. securing greater fame B. providing more jobs C. enhancing living standards D. reducing newspaper cost
