《中国经济周刊》周二的报道中，民政部社会福利和慈善事业促进司司长王振耀表示，今年民政部将统一高龄养老津贴制度，全国80岁以上的老年人可享受此津贴。

《中国经济周刊》周二报道说，全国80岁以上的居民将享受统一的高龄津贴。政府此举旨在结束各地区高龄津贴政策不一致的状况。
在上面的报道中，old age allowance就是“高龄津贴”。高龄津贴是针对高龄老人发放的特别allowance(津贴)，并不是pension(退休金/养老金)。一个人到了mandatory retirement age(法定退休年龄)就可以退休并享受nest egg(养老金)。我们把养老金领取者称为senior citizen，许多人的退休金都来自endowment insurance(养老保险金)。
Allowance一词是“津贴，补贴”的意思，例如：a housing allowance(房补)，a meal allowance(伙食补贴，餐补)。小孩的零用钱也用allowance表示。Allowance还可以表示“折价，折扣”。例如：a trade-in allowance(以旧换新交易中的折价);an allowance of $500 on an old car(一辆旧车有500美元的折价)。
