At the age of 2,Justin was reading. Six months later,he was in a pre-school class, but he was crying all the time. Why? He was so bored with the class work (mainly drawing pictures) and wanted to do something more interesting. Now he is 6 and everything is going better. He has just got a "B" grade for a university test on Greek history.
Justin's mother explained his problem when he was young. "I could not find a school for him. It was impossible ! I phoned all the schools within 100 kilometers of our house, but they all said that they could not take him as a student. He learns much faster than other young students, but he needs to be in the same age group for play. "
Justin finally found a history course at the University of Rochester. He is.also studying physics and computer science in an online program for gifted young students at Stanford University in California. In his free time,Justin runs an e-mail discussion group. He wants to make sure that gifted students can study at university as soon as they are ready. "Now that they can study online,it's much easier,"He said. "I don't have to move house and I don't have to live in a university town. And I can go and play with my friends in the neighborhood after school. It's possible and it works. I have the best of both worlds- a university life and a home life. "

We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistakes are about people. "Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?""When I got that great job,did Jim really feel good about it,as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?"When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back,it's too late.
Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don't really listen we miss the reeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you,"You're a lucky dog". That's being friendly. But "lucky dog"? There's a bit of envy in those words. What he may be saying is that he doesn't think you deserve your luck.
"Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for" is another noise that says one thing and means another. Wrapped up in this phrase is the thought that your problem isn't important. It's telling you to think of all the hungry people in the world when you haven't got a date for Saturday night.
How can you tell the real meaning behind someone's words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says agree with the tone of voice? His posture(姿势)? The look in his eyes? Stop and think.
The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.
