克制，自动戒绝
1. Abstain
克制自己，不采取任何行动。
e.g. abstain from alcohol / sex / drugs
◎扩展记忆：abstain还可表示投票时弃权。
e.g. He abstained from the voting last week.
2. Refrain
抑制感情或由于一时冲动想做的事，即暂时控制某种一时的愿望。
e.g.He has refrained from criticizing the government in public.
◎扩展记忆：refrain from （doing） sth. 是一种很formal的说法，指克制做某事。
3. Forbear
克制，遇到恼人的事时宽容或有耐心，忍住自己的感情。
e.g. Can’t forbear criticizing their ineptitude
◎扩展记忆：注意forbear的过去式以及过去分词的变形，分别是forbore和forborne.
4. Withhold
克制某种欲望，或者想做而因为某种原因没有做成。
e.g.We couldn’t withhold our laughter.
◎扩展记忆：withhold还可表示拒绝给某事物或保留某事物。
e.g. withhold information
